How to Replace your Hoover Convertible Vacuum Belt

Step 1:
UNPLUG YOUR HOOVER CONVERTIBLE VACUUM CLEANER. I use a Generic belt or a Hoover vacuum cleaner belt part #40201048 for this repair. If you are buying a belt online, look for this part number. Make sure the belt is round, not flat. Also make sure it is made by or for Hoover. The convertible was a popular model, so this belt should be easy to find. Don't use a round belt made by Eureka. It's not the same size. .		  

Step 2:
Place your Hoover vacuum cleaner upside down on a surface similar to the one shown in the photo.Touch the release on the right side of the vacuum cleaner so the handle isn't in a locked position.

Step 3:
Push the release on the bottom of the vacuum out with your thumb to remove the bottom plate on the vacuum. Remove the bottom plate. If there is a vacuum belt on the vacuum, remove it from the motor shaft.		 removing the roller cover pic

Step 4:
Remove the roller from the vacuum. Remove any hair, string, or carpet strands from the roller with a scissor. Hold the roller with you hands on the outside and spin it with your thumbs, to confirm the roller spins freely. Step 5:
Place your new Hoover vacuum cleaner belt around the roller and place the roller back in position. Look down at your vacuum cleaner and notice a groove (there is also a small picture on the vacuum belt in postion if you look closely at the bottom of the vacuum)that is etched into the vacuum cleaner. This is a guide to make sure you don't install the belt backwards. Pull the belt into positon over the motor shaft. Look at the picture on your vac and confirm that your belt is in the same position on your vacuum cleaner..		 reinstall vacuum belt to shaft

Step 6:
Spin the roller a couple of times to make sure everything is installed correctly. Place the bottom place back on the vacuum and lock it back into place. Test your Hoover vacuum, making sure the vacuum is working correctly and you don't smell the belt burning.		 securing roller cover to bottom
